Indonesia financial recovery
praised

The International Monetary Fund has welcomed the
progress made by Indonesia to restructure its foreign
debts and reform its banking system.

The IMF Managing Director, Michel Camdessus, said
the recent stability of the Indonesian currency, the
rupiah, was encouraging.

He commended the authorities in Jakarta for
implementing their new policies against a background of
extremely difficult circumstances.

Mr Camdessus announced that the IMF was releasing
nearly one-billion dollars in the latest stage of an
eleven-million dollar loan to Indonesia.
