Sony refused to license out Beta technology, while JVC licensed out their VHS technology. See the analogy?

Now about apple. How much money does Apple make? How about Microsoft? Intel? IBM? If Apple had just licensed out their technology, they would've been a powerhouse. Currently, they (Apple) are relegatedd to the outhouse.

But, as a self-proclaimed Patent dude, do you understand the drawbacks of specifiying CDMA as the only air-interface a patent applies to?

Quincy, if you are a patent person, the specification does not limit the invention; however, the claims do.

Microsoft was able to eventually bypass Apple's software patents and take their market share away from them. Microsoft found the way.

Don't you think that the Europeans will be able to bypass the Q's patents too? It happened to the best of them.

We know about the CDMA patent search word counts. But, as a self-proclaimed Patent dude, do you understand the drawbacks of specifiying CDMA as the only air-interface a patent applies to?

There are none. If you read the paragraph before the claims, normally it states that modifications to this patent will be within the scope of the invention. Therefore, an artisan with ordinary skill would be able to change air interfaces as necessary.

TDMA compatibility has to be added to WCDMA handsets to roam on existing GSM systems.

And that will naturally be added. My phone is a dual mode phone. Both TDMA/GSM and Analog. Big deal.

Bringing current digital standards to the masses required consumers to replace handsets...

I know people who buy new phones every year or two b/c they want the latest in voice clarity, standby and talk time, and the latest feature.
