Well, I can understand your viewpoint because it has been posted several times before. Your fear of the religious right is unfounded, IMO. I think they are a non entity, or rather one more group pushing an agenda. Just like NOW and the unions. No big deal. Don't fear any of these groups. As you point out, Americans don't give a damn.

They had open hearings on campaign fundraising scandals and the public was apathetic. I doubt that people will get too worked up about this other than jawbone. They realize that for the most part, the politicians when kept in check will not much alter the economic cycle. The only time that a program, Health Care Reform, emerged that would upset the economy the public responded. They even had a bipartisan committee on 'saving' Social Security and decided to do nothing. The politicians realize the great risk in upsetting the economic applecart.

Both parties are playing to the part of their ideological base that is not energized. Both sides can count on the emotionally-charged partisans to show up for fundraising and for votes. Being a mid-term election, the swing will likely come from their bases that are apathetic.
