DeBeers grand plan is to market the majority of the worlds
diamonds wether they mine them or not. Also,I'm not so sure
that DeBeers would have mined the same kimberlites that BHP
is going ahead to mine in the NWT. DeBeers obviously has the
best general knowledge about the business and are more cost
proofed with these types of developments. Obviously their
loss is DeBeers gain. A lot of the Russian experts who looked
at the NWT results all had the same opinion. Never in a million
years would you mine such small kimberlites in that harsh type
of enviroment. Mining a small cluster of pipes, sitting beneath
lakes in an arctic desert is not cost effective. We'll see....
