I trade different ways in different accounts:
day scalps
short term position/swing trades of a few days to a couple of weeks
intermediate term holds; 3 months to a year
some "forever" stuff, 1 to 5 years or so

in terms of annualized % return my best results seem to come from short term sector trades
to whit:
find a badly out of favor sector with good or improving fundamentals
watch for a possible signal of an upward reversal in the sector
watch the sector leader
jump on the #2,3,4 companies as soon as the leader turns up
my timing is usually a bit off; jumping in a tad too early and getting out a bit too soon
I don't try to buy at the bottom or sell at the top, rather try to catch a quick move in the mid range

do you do any sector work in you daily scans?
any thoughts?

Trend Reversals

To answer your question, my biggest need in learning to be a better trader (other than FOCUS, which only I can teach myself), is knowing how best to identify a stock that has ended a downtrend and began an uptrend.

Now, I enjoy TA, so I like to hear about what indicators and characteristics prove to successful traders to be most predictive.

Now, I for one am somewhat new to all this, so the more explanation, illustrations, etc. the better.

I don't know if this is something you can help with, but I have tried to give you an answer.

David

<<Question for the thread:>>

Scott,

I would like to see discussion of all the things you
mention...reversals, sectors, etc. Also, I'm interested
in what TA indicators you and others on this thread use and
how you use them and in what market environments they
work well or don't work well.

Tom

LastShadow, Here's my analysis on what I see as a possible reversal for RXSD. I'm trying to find the right thread where I can get experienced feed-back and opinions. Maybe you would like to review my analysis on RXSD's current 3 month chart and see if I'm on the right track with my technical analysis. I mostly need the help with the oscilators. As you can see, I'm uncertain what the MACD trend lines are telling me. Any help is greatly appreciated:
