Richard - I think it is a given that we will have a bad even terrible stock market for quite a while, and it will be impacted too by Y2000 awareness developing. That being said it will be interesting to see how the Clinton fracas plays out - assuming there are interminable impeachment hearings. The question then becomes, will the public turn on the Republican House and accuse them of frivolous goings on while Rome burns, or will they turn on Clinton? We have a skilled operator in Clinton - an extraordinary communicator - so it is by no means certain that the public will turn on him - also many of the people 'in the market' are not his greatest fans anyway.

I thought the Newshour on PBS was interesting last night in that both Republican and Democratic journalists agreed that the Republicans had had a very bad week - all the more so because Newt had inserted himself into the proceedings - with a 13% approval rating he is the Democrats best friend. Also his ethics stink and his personal live leaves much to be desired - so he should hide in a corner.

These things are hard to predict. As you probably know IMO the whole thing started out as a political venture which culminated in Clinton being caught in a lie - all of that is out there now - all the rest to come from Starr will be his assertions and will not be evidence that will bring Clinton down. Regards. Enigma
