>>> Technology as tool of the intolerant. One of the unintended consequences of progress... I'm not sure if you were responding to my Linux post here, but OK... :-) >>> Where is the outrage, man! College students should get on to this. Anyway, you were kidding but why should that stop me? At the moment I'm taking a couple of classes. All the college students I meet seem to be in a place far far away from any such quaint notions as getting outraged and doing something. Unless it has something to do with sex. These are the young people foreseen in the 80's cyberpunk - tatooed, pierced, living the umpteenth fashion and sex revolution, and staying far from any behaviour the establishment would consider a challenge. They are universally cynical, defensive, and street-alert. (Why else a kung-fu studio on ever other block? Grrrls in Nazi boots? Steroid mania?) No way they are going to challenge power for ideals. The best they can manage is an outrageous piercing or branding. They are concerned about defending themselves, from the gangs and drifters students are forced to live among, from their employers, from the government and university incompetence, from each other, from the boomers. On the good side, being studious seems to be making a comeback, because knowing stuff works for you personally, I guess. To them, voting is a real laughable anacronism. This is one cause of the current frequent 25% voter turnout rates, counting all potential voters that could be registered. They saw their parents try and fail to make change (they think), so... They do the practical of course. See what there is to get for yourself, try to get it without getting hurt or involved. Don't look for any pressure for improvements coming from the youth vector. Cheers, Chaz
