Well, if economists can forecast because they are asked, I guess I can too.

My gut feel is a soft landing if we get a rate cut in the next few weeks. At least for the next year or so. I am assuming that the Japanese will do something (and are actually able to do something) about their banks that looks real, although I have to admit I'm not entirely certain what that would be. They will have to let a lot of them effectively fail and cause a great deal of pain in their country. I'm hoping that Stratfor's take on the situation is not correct--that is, that they (Japan) are not deliberately allowing the situation to get completely out of hand to force to West to "come to their rescue". That would mean, I'm afraid, a really really serious disaster, and we should all head for the hills with our spam and freeze dried fruits.
