JHR, I do believe you got it right. Those that have the data network in place with the required VoIP interface equipment may have to pay only for data transfers and net connectivity and maintenance. But we'll still have to plink in a fistfull of coins at the corner phone booth to make a local voice call.

The trouble with the telcos is that they are hanging on the regulators every change. It's true that most of the world resists change especially the telcos. They were a Huge cash cow ripe for picking. The regulators and state utility commissions have been resistant to change the rules.

It will happen, there is tremendous pressure for deregulation and if the public understood the real cost to provide service they would SCREAM.

Theres lots of money to be made here....

It has made me a lot of money!
