<<Bubba admitted Monica "serviced" him in the oval office. JLA>>

I KNEW that was the true source of your outrage, not the cover story about illegality. That the right wing funders were cleaver enough to be sure to all but force, to give the sex story media and inside the beltway traction.

<<Who cares about Linda Tripp and the tapes?>>

Oh, I assure you lots of people will care. Lots, and lots.

A true right wing conspiracy to recruit Monica to unwittingly entrap the President, secretly and privately tape her confessions of the affair, and then all but force the President to misleading to the point of perjury in the bogus Paula Jones lawsuit? Pressure made tangible and palpable through their outrageously frequent leaks of sealed Jones lawsuit materials before the big trap, the fateful Lewinsky testimony, was begun?

You bet people will care.

The tide is turning. Big time.

Sorry to disappoint you jlallen. But I voted for Reagan the first time. And for Bush the first time. How left wing is that???? It rather is you that is extreme. Extremely right wing.

I'll tell you another reason, and another way that people will care about Tripp's motivation, and who may have been behind her. Especially when it starts to tie together with who was behind the Paula Jones lawsuit, as a force to the edges of perjury vehicle.

You see the public in overwhelming numbers think this Clinton's sex lies are embarrassing, but not really such a huge deal. Which is deeply distressing to right wingers and Repubs. in general who say, and have half convinced themselves that this involves a cancer of lying so severe that it threatens our national respect for the rule of law.

The publics reaction to that tends to be, naaaah, get a grip. It's sex lying. But still to think that's Clinton's extreme slipperyness is about as distasteful as the adultery.

Now, here come the Tripp tapes. The more it looks like Clinton was really and truly set up, soup to nuts, and that actors like Tripp were willing to go so far as to try to create the White House adultery if it couldn't be found, the more the yuuuuchkkk factor turns against the overwrought Republicans. And the more the President seems justified in a bit of sex lying.

That's who cares.

JLA,

Who cares about Linda Tripp?

Come now, my friend, we should all care. She is the exemplar of all
we collectively despised about the controllers behind the Iron Curtain during the cold war, when mother spying on daughter, friend spying on friend was the norm.

<<A successful tyranny requires a strong, ruthless secret police force. A successful democracy requires the abolition
of such a force. Eight years ago, a Voice of America editorial began with those words. By February 1990, a number
of East European countries had replaced Communist regimes with moderate interim leaders and were beginning to
prepare for democratic elections. They were also busy dismantling secret police forces. In East Germany, it was
the Stasi; in Romania, the Securitate. As grafitti in Berlin put it, "Stasi, Gestapo, K-G-B, Securitate: all
bloodsuckers." Today, East Europeans no longer fear secret police. Even the Soviet Union is gone -- and with it the
K-G-B. >>

But Ken and Linda and seem to be alive and well right here in the nation's capital.
