The nugget that Tripp began her "friendship" with Monica by soon suggesting that Monica initiate a sexual relationship with Clinton "to have something great to tell her grandkids" comes from MsNbc this morning, which I had on as I was surfing the Web. Its a leak from those who have listened to the Tripp tapes. (Who are only now beginning to include not only right wingers, and in the case of two tapes only I believe, some folks at Newsweek.) The information that Lewinsky was going to Washington "to get her presidential knee pads" broke a long time ago, but at the time it broke it was the only indication out there that Lewinsky was anything but a fragile young intern victim, preyed upon the biggest sexual predator in the land. So it was somewhat played down. It came up again, in somewhat expanded form in a 20/20 piece which I didn't see but did see a partial transcript of: exchange2000.com Doug
