SA says that worldwide shipments of digital settops reached 3.2 million units last year, with sales forecasts to grow by 93% this year, reaching 6.2 million units, as cable operators start to come on stream with digital services to match those already available via satellite. By the year 2000 annual shipments of digital settops are forecast by the firm to reach more than 20 million units.

IBM signs settop deal as part of digital broadcast package

The computer giant IBM has signed a digital settop deal with TV/COM as part of its move to supply end-to-end digital broadcast systems. IBM has recently completed the first phase of implementing a DVB-compliant broadcasting system for the Italian Stream cable TV network, and is now marketing the skills and experience gained from this project as a package called LogiCast.
