Michael,

<But INTC has been actively stupid for quite a few quarters, lately>

Care to site some specific examples of this "stupid" activity. BTW, during the last few quarters of stupid activity don't forget that Intel has recorded over $4,000,000,000 of profit.....not bad for a time that many talking heads are calling one of the worst downturns ever in the semi industry.

Re: Intel's cash position and your assertion that it is rapidly declining

Intel now has close to $8 billion in cash vs. about $2 billion a couple years ago.

P.S. Is there a single large cap tech company in the world that you a positive opinion of.

FF

The only thing I can come with for Intc to put some money into MU
would be to squash MU 's efforts with:
1) SLDRAM chip set development
2) SLDRAM prototypes already built for the SLDRAM group.
3) promote Rambus thru a memory supplier directly coupled with the RAMBUS investment directly.
It could be a much smaller investment than we think, so the amount of money they would kick in would be small and Intc would get some benefit above. I dont think they need guaranteed supply, the Koreans
are in full swing to crank those puppies out next year. The real question is how many are really needed in 99 vs how many the suppliers plan to build, Based on data I have seen, I think there will be plenty of chips available for the market, maybe Intc thinks not. who knows.
Good trading.
