Harman Kardon Introduces First
HDCD Products

High Quality CD Changer Available in October
From Harman Kardon Dealers Nationwide

UNION CITY, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 25, 1998--Harman Kardon(R), a leading U.S.
consumer electronics company, recently announced its first two HDCD(R) equipped products, the
FL 8550 five-disc CD changer and the Signature Series 3.0 DVD Player. The FL 8550 CD changer
will be available in October 1998 and the Series 3.0 DVD will be available in the first quarter of
1999. These products will be carried by Harman Kardon's extensive dealer network which includes
select national electronic superstores, regional audio/video retailers, and independent audio and
audio/video specialists.

''With these new HDCD-equipped products, Harman Kardon is committed to fulfilling its promise
to bring Power to the Digital Revolution,'' said Tom McLoughlin, President of Harman Kardon.
''Harman Kardon recognizes that CD is still the primary digital format for most consumers and for
that reason, Harman Kardon continues to develop new ways to improve the quality of CD playback.
In particular, we have found that HDCD provides a significant improvement, and Harman Kardon is
pleased to be the first brand to provide the benefits of HDCD in a popularly priced five-disc
changer,'' Mr. McLoughlin continued.

Harman Kardon joins a long list of top quality audio manufacturers offering HDCD-equipped
players. HDCD has become a worldwide standard in the high fidelity audio market with over 100
models of HDCD players available from such high quality manufacturers as Adcom, Arcam,
California Audio Labs, Denon, Linn, Luxman, Madrigal (Mark Levinson), and Rotel.

The Series 3.0 DVD player is also one of the first DVD players to offer HDCD decoding and
HDCD filtering for high quality playback of audio CDs.

''Pacific Microsonics is pleased to have contributed a key valued-added technology to these superb
products,'' said Bennet Goldberg, President of Pacific Microsonics. ''With over 75 million HDCD
CDs already sold in retail, many consumers purchasing these Harman Kardon products will already
own several HDCD recordings and will be amazed by the additional sound quality produced by
HDCD decoding,'' Mr. Goldberg continued.

Developed by Pacific Microsonics, HDCD(R) (High Definition Compatible Digital(R)) is a patented
process for delivering on Compact Disc the full richness and detail of the original microphone feed.
HDCD encoded CDs sound better because they are encoded with 20-bits of real musical
information as compared to 16-bits for all other CDs. HDCD provides more dynamic range, a
focused 3-D sound stage, and extremely natural musical timbre. HDCD recordings offer improved
sound quality on any CD player, and when played on HDCD equipped players they provide the
ultimate in sonic fidelity.
