We need to observe the caution flag going into this week. The broader market is still trying to digest the level of exposure to the hedge fund debacle. It's likely that any as yet unannounced hedge hiccups would be news delayed until after the Fed meeting. Doing so would have the potential of lessening the problem and reducing the amount of reported losses.

The hedge fund strain may be isolated, but the infection has left us with a weakened market sentiment. Another unexpected eclipse of the status quo could lead to some intense capital flight.

Expect 25 basis points at a time. No sense promoting irrational exuberance.
