Dell's very own Susan Larson-YOU GO GIRL. Hi Ken: Here is something you might enjoy reading. ===================================Dell executive aims to double U.K. earnings Susan Larson thrives in workaday world of long hours, longer commutes By Jerry Mahoney American-Statesman Staff Posted: June 28, 1998 BRACKNELL, England -- As Dell's vice president and general manager for the United Kingdom and Ireland, the company's highest-ranking female executive still travels a lot. This time, however, she's with a growing company that she believes represents the future of the personal computer industry. Susan Larson, head of Dell Computer Corp.'s operations in the United Kingdom and Ireland, puts in long hours and endures long commutes to visit her family in Austin. Her goal: to double Dell's earnings in the U.K. Larson's latest challenge may be her biggest. Her goal: to increase Dell's U.K. revenue from $1.1 billion last year to $2 billion this year. "It's pretty aggressive, isn't it?" she deadpans behind an unwavering confidence that Dell's top executives seem to share. "I just want to win," said Larson, who took the London post in February. "It's what we do at Dell. Just as I was able to put some points on the board in the U.S., I want to have some success in the U.K." The division's revenue grew more than tenfold, from $225 million when Larson started in 1992 to $3 billion last year. "She's probably one of our more outstanding salespeople," said Mort Topfer, a Dell vice chairman. A bigger share Most companies in any industry would be content, if not ecstatic, with sales growth in excess of 50 percent, which is what Dell's U.K. business had last year. Not only does Dell want more than that, Dell insiders say Larson's predecessor in England wasn't able to motivate his employees. "At the end of the day, we're focused on owning as much share of wallet from an account as we can," she said. austin360.com
