I am trying to get a sense for what is going on with Wave, the coalition and the recent news about INTC taking an initiative on security. The coalition is moving along establishing a security standard. There were some very STRONG statements in the CRN article from the major players that a common set of security standards is essential. We know that Wave is in discussions with the players in the coalition. Although additional details were expected in 30-60 days, this was clearly an approximation. I suspect that details and negotiations are still being hammered out, or that a new player may of joined the group, which would delay an announcement. We also know that INTC is a part of the coalition and that Wave is in discussions with the players in the coalition. Additionally, INTC is working on PC security projects. In my opinion, Wave and Intel are working closely with each other. I believe that either Wave will license their technology to INTC or that INTC may have developed their own 'security chip" and Wave will license the metering aspect to INTC. Technically, I am not sure how this would all work and how any sort of potential license deal with INTC would affect the current SMSC deal or that of an anticipated NSM deal. This is only one of many potential outcomes. Intel has stated that PC security is a top priority. Even if INTC has their own solution for solving security, Wave still has the meter$$$. It seems to me that if the industry is going this far to implement a security standard, why would they pass up an opportunity to add metered content? Metering content will help facilitate additional PC commerce, which is what this whole thing is about. It is about SELF PRESERVATION. There is certainly no question that PC security has come to the forefront of the industry and that PC players are interested in Wave's solution.
