E: That was a neat trick! How did you do that! My post DID VANISH! Now I want it back! It takes a fair bit of time to write these posts!

Now don't make this one disappear. It is important!

Wanted to do an update on that 5 Horses of the Apocalypse that
I have mentioned here before (these are the very high volume
type chips):

DVD - sure bet now (anyone who says otherwise is a fool - DIVX
is likely a niche and we have content now and the players are much
cheaper and we have China - still no recording but that will come)

DCAM - Monster Success (if only the idiots had not messed up DVD we
would have been in the same situation 1 to 1.5 years ago with DVD instead of it just now finally taking off - 2 XMas' late)

Fibre Channel - Steady Rapid Growth continues - lots of devices
will use this

GSM implementation - Has all the earmarks of a monster hit for about
2 years or so - will likely be integrated with other implementations I think.

CDMA - not yet - still working on designs I think.

Now add 2 more horses:

DVB chip - looks like a sure bet big-time winner (unlike the US
Europe has their act together with this digital TV thing). Also LSI teaming up with BBC who is in charge of the whole shebang - so a good thing - leaders are good! Check out:
bbc.co.uk
(9 demodulators tested - LSI clearly on top (but there may have been bias - BBC board!, Motorola 2K, STS and some others I have not heard of. There
also is a zip file with complete results.)

SonyPlayStation 2 - just put this in here - no idea what portion of
the market LSI will (if any) get here - rumors on Sep. 24 that PlayStation 2 be rolled out in April - these rumors were then squashed all over the place. We shall see.

Of course the older higher volume horses have not yet been put out to pasture:
MPEG-2
STBs
networking whatever
storage whatever
telecom whatever
playstation whatever

And now add on all the Symbios high volume chips:
unknown unknown unknown <ggg>

So problems? What problems? No problems! <g>
