Stitch ...

Hi. I was lurking and caught your post.

I am an investor in PTIS and for this reason very much
interested in PhotoMask and Thin Film Head.

PTIS intends to come out with a PVD product some time in March 99
that I *think* will compete against VECO.

I am *not* a techie knowledgeable person, and therefore,
would appreciate any comments or thoughts you might see
in this.

Currently, SEG, Applied Magnetics, and ReadRite are customers
of PTIS. (As they probably are of VECO).

(I also suspect but cannot prove that PTIS sells to IBM)

The post below is from Yahoo and pertains to a recent Conference
call.

Stitch ...

This is a follow-up post from my first post.

A person who actually sells into this market (TFH) wrote
the following concerning your question.

You:
I am curious to know if anyone knows what the alternative deposition
methods/equipment are for GMR thin-film layers?

Their response:
For creation of the actual GMR stack (that is the specific
stack of materials that sense the magnetic transitions
on the disk), it is either Ion Beam Deposition
or Sputter Deposition. And the race is far from being
decided, either in terms of technology or vendor.
(The main players right now are CVC, Commonwealth and Veeco).
Remember that there are many other films to be etched and
deposited in the whole thin film head (MR or GMR).

I hope this helps you.

Regards,
John McCarthy
