AOL just signed a contract with CBS to promote CBS's program schedule, by popping up a screen at logoff - even if the member/customer/sucker has marketing preferences turned off.

When the complaints started rolling in, AOL's response was that this was a new "feature" for its customers. AOL's spokeswoman Wendy Goldberg actually characterized it this way: "This is
not a pop-up," said Goldberg. "Pop-ups are single purpose ads that you have
to click off. It's not a pop-up but just another screen."

Next, AOL's PR dept will be arguing over the meaning of the word "is".
