Helmut Kohl was expected to lose the German elections since the SPD candidate, Gerhard Schroeder, running slightly ahead, made an alliance with the Green Party (approximately 7% of the electorate).

This alliance is not a match made in heaven. The 8pm news on France 2 "le Journal" showed a rally at Green Party headquarters with party members singing a popular German drinking song with the new lyrics "Schroeder ist ein Lügner" (Schroeder is a liar).

Shroeder is similar to Lionel Jospin, Tony Blair, or Bill Clinton. Young, charismatic, handsome, and committed to making everyone happy.
