My, you really liked that little smear operation didn't you Bill? The facts on that one are a bit stale, but the furlough program involved had bipartisan support and was thought to work well. I believe it originated under a Republican governor. There were a bunch of other "facts" there that didn't show up in the TV commercials, but the TV commercials did their job.

The only way you can absolutely, 100% avoid people getting out of prison and committing other crimes is either universal life imprisonment or universal capital punishment. Otherwise, there's always going to be some anecdote like the Willy Horton story.

Anyway, sticking to your topic is really a bit tedious. Even though it's Sunday, pompous moralizing is distasteful any day of the week. When the topic comes up, I keep remembering all those inconvenient New Testament stories, let he who is without sin cast the first stone, the rich man, the camel, and the eye of the needle, remove the log from your own eye before worrying about the speck in someone else's. As far as smear tactics, that last one seems to fit pretty well here. Ken Starr must be free to smear, and to point out that he's a consummate smear artist is the most despicable of smears.

CHeers, Dan.

P.S. Congratulations on post 5666 here.
