ZP Your KOT configuration notes are exactly what a Greenhorn (immigrant from land of Macintosh) like me needs to impliment the KOT system. I liked the security made available with 2 independent drives right from your first mentioning of the idea way back when. Then when I was totally out of commission this past spring due to my harddrive failure its logic was made all the more real. I'm very close to ordering an Abit/Celeron machine running NT for trading from Mushkin and I've pretty much decided on 'The ZP KOT' back in a flash HDD setup. As you indicate regular daily backups will be executed separately. This could prove invaluable on a trading machine during a middle of the day system failure. I'll most likely go with the older IBM Deskstars 5 & 8. Without this thread I would not have been able to put this machine together, Greenhorn that I am. My gratitude to you all is immense. <almost weeping ;-)> Clarence

Motherboard bios must support drive boot selection This option is available on most new motherboards. One can find the info in the mobo manual or by accessing the bios. The methodology for accessing bios varies. On my computer I push DEL shortly after the initiation of the boot sequence. This is operating system independent as it occurs before the OS starts loading. One will see a list of bootable devices once the bios page has loaded. It will vary depending on the bios. One can select the order of the devices. Most default sequences start with the A drive..then CDROM..then the primary harddrive. One only need alter the the primary harddrive selection. The bios in my machine has an option for each of 4 possible harddrive selections. The primary and secondary drives on each of two channels on the IDE controller. Has anybody else had trouble with a primary partition on hard disk drive one no longer being set as an active partition after using the BIOS to boot from a second hard drive? I ran into this problem with an Asus's motherboard. It meant I had to run Fdisk to make the primary partition on drive one active in addition to selecting which drive to boot from with the BIOS to be able to go back and boot from drive one.
