A Question to those pro and con Clinton staying in office...

The Rep Congress just passed a tax cut bill which will likely get vetoed by Clinton. How many are for Clinton leaving office but against this bill and vice versa?

It seems to me that there is some wisdom, due to current market jitters to keep the pressure on balancing budgets, paring down government debt and overhead while we can. If there is a big world economic downturn just around the corner, then we may need to have increased public works projects like infra structure, to keep things going.

Perhaps the biggest trigger for the 1929 crash and 10 year recovery was a hike in interest rates and the lag on pubic spending programs to sustain business momentum. We are now urging the Japanese to stimulate programs and inject public funds into clearing their banking system.

Is it the right time for the United States to be proposing a tax cut vs. helping secure social security (we've all seen how secure a 401K can be!).. or is this all just politics as usual?

Jim

Yale Law School Debates Impeachment
NEW HAVEN, Conn. (AP) - Yale Law School is not responsible for the legal interpretations of alumnus Bill Clinton. So say its scholars.

Even though President Clinton got his legal schooling from Yale, professors say it doesn't teach students to parse words to twist the law.

The president should be ashamed for his attorney's attempts to twist the meaning of words. I don't think the senate will put up with much of it.

Dougjn; I'd like to discuss the perjury charges only one at a time, as otherwise the discussion gets too fragmented.

My favorite White House response to the charges of the first Starr report is this one:
2. The OIC's next charge - that the President testified falsely when he contradicted Ms. Lewinsky's grand jury testimony on the question whether he touched Ms. Lewinsky's breasts or genitalia during their sexual activity -- is substantially identical to the allegation contained in Allegation I, supra, and cannot constitute perjury for the same reason. The critical issue here is not whether the testimony of the President and Ms. Lewinsky differ but whether there is any evidence that the President knowingly and intentionally gave false testimony. It is worthwhile to note, however, the inaccuracy of the OIC's assertion that "[t]here can be no contention that one of them has a lack of memory or is mistaken" about the details of their physical relationship. Acts at 40.

In other words, the president didn't commit perjury when he testified that he never had sexual relations with Lewinsky because he never touched any of her special places. It boils down to a "he said, she said" kind of legal argument. But the Lewinsky testimony is supported by her contemporaneous e-mail, conversations with friends, etc. Those conversations are documented in the Starr report, giving support to her side of things. But there is another way of looking at the whole thing.

I call it the "Lousy Liberal Lover" defense.

The president admits that Lewinsky gave him pleasure, but denies he gave her any. I've always found, (in my own explorations of oral sodomy) that playing with the other participant's equipment is part of the fun. I think they felt the same way.

But maybe the president is an unbelievably lousy lover. This might go some way towards explaining why Star magazine reports that he hasn't had sex with Hillary in 14 years. My explanation is simpler. I think that after he caught herpes, Hillary kept away from him. The herpes explains why he has refused to release the results of his medical examinations. I am now amazed to see anyone brave enough to kiss him on the lips. Haven't seen too many democrats up for election brave enough to stand next to him, either.
