Gene - Re: ", how about your thoughts on the 1999 server market and
Intel's share? "

Intel's Server market share will grow significantly in 1999 as the Xeon gets ramped up, marginalities are removed (re-designed) and Xeon prices drop. Yes, DROP.

In the later part of the year 1999, Intel will introduce stunningly fast server chips with up to 2 MegaBytes of on-chip L2 cache - Cascades in 0.18 micron process.

With some luck, Unix/Linus/Sun Solaris will help drive the increase in Intel penetration of the server market.

Gene - Re: " Paul Engel, How perfectly predictable."

Your powers of prediction are poor.

Review your own earnings and revenue "predicitons" for Intel for Q497 and Q398.

Gene - Why does the AMD K6-2 have BUGS when run at 350 MHz under Windows 95 yet the Intel Pentium II runs at 350 MHz, 400 MHz and 450MHz without problems?

They result in unstable AMD K6-2 system performance and require a complete reboot.

Shouldn't AMD have done a better job of testing their chips before rushing them out the door?

The Windows 95 upgrade patch isn't required for the Pentium II - why does the K6-2 require it?

Isn't the K6-2 supposed to be COMPATIBLE with Windows ?

Looks like Microsoft might have to offer AMD-specific versions of their Operating Systems.

350 MHz with Windows 95

Win95 at high speeds
Windows 95 will not run stable with all 350 MHz and above K6-2
systems. This has been well known at AMD for well over a month,
but it was not until recently that AMD and Microsoft went open
about the issue. Anyway, Microsoft has fixed this silly bug in their
Windows 95 operating system. For some reason, this bug only
affects Windows 95. Windows NT and Windows 98 do not have
this bug, so do not use this patch with Windows 98 or Windows
NT. If you want to get your Windows 95 based K6-2 350 system
working, you can either call Microsoft long distance and then pay a
$35 tech service charge to get a patch, or you can download the
patch for free.

This patch makes it even easier to overclock the K6-2 300 to 350
MHz when running Windows 95. Windows 98 users should not
install this patch, though. Windows 98 does not have the bug that
Windows 95 does. This patch fixes a bug in Windows 95. Do not
use this patch with Windows 98 or Windows NT. This is just for
Windows 95. Also, I have personally tested this patch with the VIA
MVP3 chipset and the patch works with that chipset for sure.
Others have confirmed that it works with the ALi chipset as well, but
I have not taken the time to test it with the ALi yet.
