Diana,

Reservations are just personal thoughts. Don't let me put you off buying because now is a good time to buy. When things look bad and they recover and start looking bad again you have a true buying opportunity. An old rule is that 50% of a stocks value is the sector it's in.

I am surmising that they (VRC) could not keep up with orders during the recent boom in drilling activity. A backlog is a healthy, essential part of doing business; but a huge backlog is a bad sign IMHO. Their goods are in demand but they ar not flexible enough in their manufacturing process to cope with swings. Saying that; I do sympathize with their management and applaud them for not expanding too quickly and being left with large interest payments on idle plants.

If they cannot clear their backlog in a downturn, how do suppose they will fare in the upturn? Or is the upturn far enough away not to let it concern you?

Regards,

Paul.

PS. Majors are looking for excuses to reduce costs. It will make them healthier when oil prices go higher.
