HerbVic..."We agreed with the other participants that a forced liquidation of this portfolio could potentially cause other follow-on effects that were not good for the market." True, but the bailout by the 15 investment firms was to avoid liquidation of the portfolio in panic -- and allow liquidation over the next three years according to an article in this weeks Barron's. That is partially why the Feds brought all parties together in the first place, to avoid a panic sell-off.
