I agree it is not an important issue. Intel was in no hurry to push for the higher speed bus. It is actually pretty hard to do - Intel had just gotten to a single 66/64 card on a bus, and the PCI-X spec allows a full complement of 66/64 and one of the faster cards, so there is some fancy signal management going on. I think CPQ wanted it mostly for Alpha, but maybe also for next-generation clusters. In any event it is not the kind of thing that will drive billions in sales in the near future.
