Andrew, the weakness remains:

"Hence, two independent sources indicate August sales growth of 109-125%. A single source indicates indirectly (through above calculation) that July sales themselves were strong."

The numbers all are based on July for which we have ZDNETs market research to indicate it was a good month (267,000) based on your setting their % growth numbers to overall Q3 sales. Thus we have one data point from which all others are determined. If July sales weren't as high as ZDNET estimates August numbers could be all over the map. While we have to consider ZDNETs research I simply point out that it would be a bit unusual in the industry for sales to peak just prior to the iMac launch and the G3 refresh (Also PB scarcity should be considered.) Normally, sales would decline prior to a big launch. Something to be considered.

You also mentioned the Computerware data point of 1240 in percentage terms. I tend to focus on the fact that Computerware as a chain sold only 1240 units since the launch, a very small number, one which I'd hesitate to base much on. Lastly would be the 500 customer survey which is also a pretty small survey.

In any case we'll have to wait and see if we get any more data prior to the earnings. I would point out that Apple most certainly has to meet some expectations - there will certainly be analysts in line to debunk Apple's results and for the short term traders here it makes all the difference in the world where that results falls.
