Ian,

You seem doubtful of information presented on Yahoo... :-) Upon reading some of the posts, are you aware that some posters there interpreted this article to mean future layoffs?

While the devaluation of the yen has helped consumers, it has harmed
many Silicon Valley companies and cost thousands of high-tech
employees their jobs. At Silicon Valley Group Inc. alone, the low yen
has led to sharply lower-than-expected sales in 1998 and to layoffs of
more than 500 people, says Papken S. Der Torossian, the San Jose
company's chief executive officer.

I'm sorry. I have nothing of value to share. All I know is what I have read and I have been seeking further information. As you may recall, the mid-summer RIF was announced in the media before the employees were informed. Naturally, they are worried.

However, I give up. I don't want to get involved in one of the thread disputes I have seen on other boards. Good-night.
