well Michelle, on a recent trip out of town, Clinton's motorcade passed hundreds of protesters holding up signs. One sign said, "Clinton -- an Ozark Caligula". So I was just attempting to explore the possible basis for that really uncalled-for comparison. It really is terrible, no? What outrage will be visited upon us next? -g-

Seriously, it is amazing how you can draw parallels between the two. I personally think that perhaps the biggest reason for the sign along the road is that Clinton really doesn't appear to have recognized that he has defiled the most important, most highly exalted office in the land, the Oval Office, with unprecedented tawdryness---and an unusually reckless disregard for the likely possibility of getting caught, and the consequences of that. He shows no signs of genuine regret at having done that.

His only public "apology" directed towards all of the American people never contained the word "apologize" or "sorry". Only "regret", for having misled his wife. He was combative, and wanted to place the blame for *his actions* on Ken Starr!

I am also remembering his wife's public denial: "I can state unequivocally that, as my husband has said, these allegations are *false*". Then she went on to suggest that a "vast right wing conspiracy" was "behind these allegations".

Since I'm a conservative Republican, I guess the First Lady was suggesting that I was also part of the "conspiracy" to "accuse her husband" of these "false allegations". At the time, the lying President was obviously pretty confident that the true nature of his relationship with Monica in the Oval Office would never be proved. I think it has been proved, and considering the 7 months of toying around with the American people that the President and his wife did, I expected quite a bit more remorse for the cover-up, and the false accusation brought by Hillary.

So yes, I think that in light of these events, I feel it is reasonable for me to, mostly in jest, draw comparisons of Clinton to Caligula.
