The bookies who were indicted several months ago were accused of violating the Federal Wireline Act of 1961 which covers bets placed over telephone lines rather than the Internet. I heard some were acquitted and there may be some cases still pending. The Wireline Act may be extended to include the Internet and that's what the Kyl Bill seeks to accomplish. The President's "tricks" in the Oval Office may have legislators preoccupied until at least next year. At least eight states prohibit gambling via the Internet at this time.
