I personally don't care about LTCM a bit. I fail to see why the FED had to sacrifice all its image, all its clout for this one little hedge fund. When compared with LTCB it doesn't even register on an economic richter scale. So $3.5B goes poof! in the night. Who cares, really ? A few fat cat investors I'm sure, some banks maybe, big deal. They knew the risks or should have.

What exactly was at risk, such that a $3.5B straw might break the camel's back ? Greenie doesn't look good on this one. Not in Asia, and not on the Left Coast. I don't buy into the "head screwed on right" approach either. Lay the cards on the table face up. I haven't seen anyone yet defend this action with any credible argument.
In a word it stinks. Cowboy capitalism indeed! Next!
