md1... more on the SBUX deal as well...

(From Bloomberg)
Kraft, whose brands such as Maxwell House coffee, Post cereal and Oscar Meyer meats, accounts for about one of every 10 items found in U.S. shopping carts. It sells about $1.5 billion a year in coffee in the U.S.

Terms of the agreement weren't disclosed. Both companies said it would be the first phase of a broader domestic and global partnership.

Americans buy $5.8 billion in whole and ground coffee beans annually.

I like it. I remember the rumors of MO buying SBUX a long time ago, however, I think acting in a marketing/distributing capacity is better. Besides, MO does have its own coffee already, and I would rather not have to worry about 1,800 leases in the U.S.

BTW, I never knew Kraft accounted for about 1 in 10!

It will be most interesting to see what the other phases of this agreement turn out to be.
