Baan Creates Outsourcing Arm For End-To-End ERP Offerings

From www.informationweek.com. I've highlighted what I thought was most interesting; the growth of the ERP market.

Looks good to me!

Steve

Enterprise software vendor Baan Co. is ready to play the
outsourcing game. The company has formed Baan Midmarket
Outsourcing, a unit that will provide ERP outsourcing to
midmarket customers.

Baan says its will deliver end-to-end ERP packages that
include rapid implementation, operations, technical support,
and ongoing maintenance for a fixed, monthly per-seat price.
Baan says its ERP services will be available through a
network of resellers, channel partners, and select
market-leading outsource solutions providers.

ERP outsourcing is a hot market. The Meta Group expects it
to rise from about $1 billion this year to between $6
billion and $8 billion within three to four years. That's
because midsize companies typically cannot afford to
implement ERP applications or do not have sufficient IT
staff to support the software.

Baan rivals J.D. Edwards, SAP, PeopleSoft, and Oracle have
already outlined plans for their own ERP outsourcing
services.

I don't see any good news for SAP from the changeover in Government. They are obviously going to be on the "Swedish" model and increase the share of government in the GNP. SAP has the advantage of being able to move its operation out of Germany, as it is all software, not manufacturing, but the change certainly won't help the stock. Too bad, I was going to buy back in next year, but I think I will do better in other "techs" for the next couple of years.
