Politics is a high stakes game and politicians will use whatever is around them as a weapon. In this particular case; the weapon that was handy was the legal system. Just like with separation of church and state; it is clear that there is a need to have a separation of politics and the legal system. Now that the smoke has cleared; what IS clear is that this was once again all smoke and mirrors by Newt G. and more of his dirty politics allied with all of his Clinton hating buddies. This isn't about Truth, or perjury, or obstruction of justice; it is all about one party trying to use a minor majority that makes it possible to strong-arm the other party out of the picture. What's great is that as dumb as the average American slob is; they ain't that dumb to not see through this. November's going to be a wash and this was all about November and nothing more. It won't sell after it's stone cold old as an issue which by January it will be. Perjury; obstruction of justice; everyone is starting to yawn everytime that mantra starts. Republican's can try to push it; shut down the Presidency instead of the government and they will end up with egg on their faces worse than the last time.
