Dan - all the scrutiny Bill Clinton has gotten hasn't been enough to stop him from doing really stupid things. That's why he has continued to do them - the penalty has never been sufficient to make him stop. Nor will this episode stop him. He's like the recalcitrant child in the grocery store - the parent will not discipline the child so the parent gets exactly what he or she deserved - a child who is running the show.

You raise a very good point in all of this mess - why would anyone want to subject themselves to this and go into public service? I think some of our best and brightest are going to be wary of the experience itself, no matter how clean their personal life is.

Mr. K.

Democrats Push for a Clinton "Time-Out"

In an attempt to find a positive and constructive way to punish the President, Democrats today proposed that Clinton be given a 10 minute "time-out". Said one Democratic congresswoman, "Impeachment is the political equivalent of a spanking. We all know that spanking is inhumane and abusive. We cannot allow the President to be subjected to a spanking because it would do irreversible damage to his self-esteem. Therefore, we are proposing that the President be given a 10 minute "time-out" instead of impeachment."

Although the White House agreed with Democratic congressional leaders that a "time-out" would be a more loving and caring form of punishment, they disagreed with how long the "time-out" should be. One White House source told BNN that Clinton would not agree to any "time-out" that was longer than 5 minutes.
