*sigh*

Do you want detailed descriptions of the situations where just reading an e-mail will infect your system? OK, here goes:

#1 Using Microsoft Exchange, select MS-Word as mail editor (this is actually a pretty dumb thing to do, but well..When you receive an e-mail, containing an attachment containing an infected Word document, Exchange will automatically run Word to display the message...the result - a virus infection.

#2 Using cc:mail, if you receive an e-mail message, containing *only* an attachment (that is, no text in the body), and the attachment is (as before) an infected Word document, again, Word will be run to display the message, which again results in an infection.

In all other cases, people have actually to specifically request that the attachment is opened, typically by clicking on an icon, but in those two situations, just reading the message will release the virus.
