I agree that seeing a mission statement from the company would be interesting. From my discussions with management, I honestly don't believe that the company misunderstands its obligations as a music vendor: it knows that the Card doesn't work without the product to back it up.

My primary frustrations with the company are that it (1) has underestimated the difficulty involved in getting a sophisticated e-commerce Web site up and running and (2) has failed to manage expectations during the ramp-up process. TSIG should have made a better decision in hiring its Web-development partners; Hastings clearly is working hard and giving it the old college try, but they have had to learn something new every step of the way, and that inevitably leads to bugs, delays, and other nagging problems. Also, the first law of public relations is to set expectations that you're going to beat along the way. Microsoft is the master at this game, telling analysts to beware the slowdown next quarter and then coming through with earnings surprises every time. TSIG has failed miserably on this score, setting expectations and then routinely failing to meet them.

These problems can be fixed. We need to work with the company to help them identify the problems and ensure that they don't happen again. I see this all as part of a process that, I believe, will ultimately see us gaining nicely on our investments.
