IRVINE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE) via NewsEdge Corporation -- AirTouch Cellular Friday announced National Home Rate(SM) pricing for new and existing Southern California customers using their phones within the region or throughout the country.
The launch of this new pricing, scheduled for Oct. 1, means that consumer and business users, both analog and digital, can enjoy their home rates while traveling virtually anywhere in the 50 states.
"The great news here is that AirTouch is eliminating roaming fees for customers who travel with their phones," said Nancy Hobbs, AirTouch's executive vice president and general manager. "With the AirTouch National Home Rate, AirTouch puts home-rate roaming in reach of all customers, not just the high volume users. After signing up for National Home Rate pricing, customers can use their phones when they travel outside the region and still pay the same per-minute rate applicable in Southern California."
New Pricing Plans Announced
Beginning Oct. 1, AirTouch will offer three new Digital plans and three new California Choice(R) plans to Southern California customers. Digital plan options are: 250 minutes for $49.99 per month, 500 minutes for $74.99 per month and 1,000 minutes for $124.99 per month. For a limited time, National Home Rate pricing, which allows roaming at a flat post-package minute rate, is included at no extra charge on the two-year Digital 250, Digital 500 and Digital 1000 plans. Digital plan customers also receive 1,000 free weekend minutes per month of local calling. In addition, each of these plans includes the first minute of inbound calls for free, and free Caller ID, call waiting, call forwarding and conference calling features.
Customers who use fewer minutes may prefer the California Choice plans, which are available for both digital and analog users. Those plans range from 10 to 75 minutes per month, include free weekend minutes, and start as low as $19.99 per month. California Choice plan customers who want National Home Rate pricing pay an additional $10 per month for the service.
Wireless users who sign up for the California Choice or Digital plans also benefit from AirTouch's Expanded Local Calling Area. Calls made in the seven-county Southern California area, including calls made from the desert regions of San Bernardino and Riverside counties, are included in the calling plans at no extra charge.
AirTouch's National Home Rate Pricing is the result of intensive efforts by AirTouch to renegotiate contracts with dozens of roaming partners throughout the United States -- from carriers that serve big cities to those that serve rural regions. "By reducing our costs, we can pass along those savings in the form of lower rates for customers," said Hobbs. "We talk about helping customers balance their lives, so now, even if they're out of town, they can still affordably use their phones to manage their time. Our new plans give subscribers the freedom to use their phones whenever and wherever they choose."
Prepaid Enhancements
AirTouch also improved its Southern California prepaid calling program this month, introducing a $15 card and a $1 per-minute rate for calls to Mexico. The company also extended the usage period of its $30, $50 and $100 cards from 30 to 60 days. "It's all about choice and giving our customers the wireless options they want and need," said Hobbs. "While prepaid is a small niche right now, it's growing, and AirTouch is leading the way in addressing the demands of this dynamic market, both in the U.S. and abroad."
