(COMTEX) B: RealNetworks tuned in by AOL
B: RealNetworks tuned in by AOL

Washington, DC, Sep. 28, 1998 (The Content Factory via COMTEX) --
Shares of RealNetworks Inc. (RNWK) soared 23 percent Monday after the
company said its technology for delivering audio and video programming
over the Internet will be part of America Online's new software. By
becoming the default online media player for AOL (AOL), the deal also
gives RealNetworks a leg up on Microsoft's (MSFT) competing product,
NetShow. A similar bundling-default deal is expected this week
involving RealNetworks and Netscape Communications. Corp.'s (NSCP)
Communicator software.

"This deal has got to be considered a major coup for RealNetworks,
and will add significantly to their user base," said Peter Krasilovsky,
vice president of Arlen Communications Inc., a media research firm
based in Bethesda, Md. "Most of AOL's 13 million users were up for
grabs when it came to audio and video steaming tools. Now these
mainstream users will default to RealPlayer. One can assume that once
they start using RealPlayer, these users won't proactively search for
alternatives.'" See full story.
