Company Press Release Sun Introduces High Performance Carrier-Grade Server for Internet Service Providers Sun Netra 1125 Server Brings the Quality and Reliability of the Telco Central Office to ISPs' Commercial Computing Environments SAN JOSE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 29, 1998-- Sun Microsystems, Inc., today announced at the ISPCon tradeshow the immediate availability of its Netra(TM) 1125 server, bringing the quality and reliability of carrier-grade computing from the telco central office to Internet service providers (ISPs). An AC-power version of the NEBS-certified Sun Netra 1120 server, introduced in June, the Netra 1125 system enables customers to deploy network services -- such as network management, subscriber services and e-commerce applications -- outside of the telco central office, in commercial environments requiring AC-power input. By providing both AC- and DC-power options, Sun is in the unique position to offer its customers the ability to go to a single vendor for the telco-grade servers that will meet their needs while saving development costs and time. ''The high performance and reliability of the Sun Netra 1125 server make it the ideal platform for our new LinkNet 2500 Series IP Telephony Gateway, introduced here at the ISPCon show. The combination of this powerful new platform and our applications will allow ISP's to offer an array of new enhanced services, such as Internet telephony and Unified Messaging, to their subscribers,'' said Lee W. Hill, president and CEO of Linkon Corporation (OTC BB:LKON - news). The Netra 1125 server joins Sun's previously introduced Netra family of products as a low-cost system specifically intended to meet the needs of ISPs. It is designed for mission critical applications and meets the stringent environmental and packaging standards of the telco central office, but can be deployed in commercial environments because of its AC-power input. The Netra 1125 server provides ISPs a competitive advantage by allowing them the ability to develop on any Sun(TM) platform in the robust Solaris(TM) operating environment and deploy an off-the-shelf telecommunications application without additional software modification. ''Sun's ISP customers have realized it is no longer enough simply to offer network access and are seeking technology that allows them to offer value-added services,'' said Daniella Russo, director of marketing for the Network Systems Group at Sun Microsystems, Inc. ''With the addition of the Netra 1125 server to the Netra product family, Sun is enabling ISPs to provide webtone services on par with the quality and reliability of dialtone.'' The Netra 1125 system leverages Sun's developments in the commercial server space to provide cost-effective, state-of-the art technology. All of these capabilities enable telco providers to offer new services to customers as quickly as possible. -0- Netra 1125 Server Features -- AC-Power Supply -- Enables customers to develop and deploy into the commercial computing environment, reducing
