If you evaluate those countries purely on their own merits, the managers are probably right, particularly with Singapore and Taiwan. But I'm quite convinced that Japan has at least one more major hit to go through before they wake up and drop the LDP. Most Asian countries will slump along with them, even those that really don't deserve it.

My own view is that a change in government in Japan would mark the beginning of the turnaround. Although being in the thick of the action can easily inspire excessive caution. We have our own view on blood in the streets - first thing you do when you see it is make sure it isn't yours. Second thing is to run for cover.
