jbe, that's the most interesting post from a Keep Him In guy I've seen yet.

While I appreciate the diversity of the personal insults listed (and recognize some of my own unmistakable work) perhaps the frequency of the insults should also have been included.

Have you noticed that the Keep Him In Crowd is particularly concerned with the morals and motives of their opponents, while the Throw Him Out Crowd focuses on the intellect and mental health of their opponents? Sounds like America.

You are right, I did let fly an over-the-top insult laden single post against one individual. I had been provoked for some time by him, but what really insulted me was a statement that wouldn't make your list at all. It wasn't the words, but the meaning. He said quite directly that my blending of certain secularly informed moral views (secular humanism) and my brand of Christianity was intrinsically and basically a fraud. It would be like calling some particular religion not just less than ideal in some respects, but in some deep and fundamental way, fraudulent, a joke.

Anyway, my reply was over the top. I did indeed loose my cool. I can't say he didn't deserve some belitting in response, but the way I did it didn't do myself any credit. Do I get to throw out the single outlier? <gg> As unrepresentative?

I like to think that the vast majority of my posts avoid insults entirely, unless you want to call a little fun poking and irony insulting. I pass up responding in kind to the vast majority of insults I receive. Also try to post a fair amount of stuff with genuine content.

Doug

Well jeez jbe I have to 'fess up here. But can anybody take bitbrain seriously? As for "a common right wing wacko slur", that one is in response to what I feel has to be credited as the greatest rant yet from the other side, which I must obnoxiously quote again:

A predictable and hollow moral relativist response. Character does matter. Letting Clinton get away with his lies, perjury, obstruction and abuse of his office will corrupt an entire generation. NO MAN is above the law. Especially not one who is so lacking in character as the current occupant of the WH. If that be "McCarthyite" then that is a label I will gladly wear. It is time to return character and integrity to our lives and to politics in this country. Clinton is hopefully the nadir. It is spineless relativists such as yourself, fearful that someone may criticize your own lifestyle who have given a pass to the likes of Clinton for too long. You sir are a willing accomplice to the decline and (soon to be)fall of our society. Those who do not learn the lessons of history are doomed to repeat the mistakes of the past. It is exactly the collapse of moral order such as we are witnessing today which led to the leftist dictatorships in Europe in the 1930's and ultimately to WWII. I fear for a country and a society which do not recognize how corrosive the likes of Clinton are to all of us in our daily lives. Have you no shame? How can you continue to defend such an utterly despicable character? The fact that you seem educated and well read makes the situation all the more critical IMO. It is a very depressing situation indeed.

Dougjn was the recipient of that particular masterpiece. The "common right wing wacko slur" was the "leftist dictatorships in Europe in the 1930's", i.e. Hitler, who put communists in concentration camps with the Jews and homosexuals, was somehow a leftist. Krupp would have been shocked to hear that, I wager. The whole thing was so - Spenglerian? Dwight's Clinton as Caligula was a pale second.

Anyway, I will try to clean it up, responding in kind is a bit unchristian and all. I am still confused by the somewhat unforgiving nature of certain believers, but you've illuminated the theological basis for that a bit. I've taken the best frontal assaults from some participants elsewhere.

Cheers, Dan.

P.S. Have you read Our Game? A realistic portrait Chechnya & environs? Le Carre is uneven, and he's had some odd personal spats lately, but he has written good books, unlike, say, Tom Clancy. I liked that one, though the Chechnya parts were too grim. Probably didn't do the reality justice, though.

RFLOL..that list of insults, divided by camp is very well organized; good job in letting us see all of our works in one place.

>>"You sound confused about ethics...You could have had a rousing career in the peak years of the Roman Empire."<<

Did I really say that?? Well, it is an original creation, though I have to admit I got the idea from the "Ozark Caligula" sign mentioned in a news article. So, I can't take all the credit. -GG-

Be interesting to compile a list of Clinton insults. I wonder which list would be longer, the list of insults participant hurl at each other or the list hurled at the object of the threads.

I thought the other requirement for contestants was that all insults must be postmarked by midnight September 30th. Applicants are advised that their insults will not be returned. Judges' opinions are final.
