The reason that the average volumn seemed to decrease recently is because of the recent stock split. When stock splits, all previous trading volumn is adjusted according to the split ratio. However, traders do not adjust according to the split ratio. If they used to trade 1K, then they will still trade 1K or maybe 1.5K, but not exactly double to 2K. I think this is the main reason why recent trading volumn looks thin compare to the average.
