GM,

Re rate cut:

After arguing a few weeks back that there was no "economic" reason for the fed to cut rates, market psychology dictates a cut of 50 basis points or more. The only question is whether or not the whole cut will come tomorrow.

Re Good News: Did I miss it? or did this thread miss both these "after the bell" stories?

Micron Technology Inc. (MU) 33 7/8 -1/8: memory chip maker posts a fiscal Q4 net of $0.42 a share, considerably narrower loss than the First Call estimate of $0.54 a share; in the year-ago period it earned $0.33 a share; stock has traded up in after hours trading after closing off more than one point during New York hours; see press release.....

Micron Electronics Inc. (MUEI) 16 15/16 +3/16: direct marketer of PCs posts a fiscal Q4 net of $0.08 a share, excluding contingency accruals, six cents better than the First Call estimate, vs year-ago net of $0.16 a share; sales fell 21% to $339 mln; see press release.....

that is, if one can call reduced revenues and earnings but not as bad as the estimate, 'good news'...

Ian.

GM, Brian,

all I can say is if there is NO rate cut tomorrow, that means the Feds had cut a deal with the new owners of LTCM, giving them time to unwind their positions. At which time, I think we should give Ken Starr a new assignment investigating the Feds and Greenspan.
