I think the Democrats' intended goal of socializing Health Care is enough reason to vote Republican. The Democrats realized they made the mistake of moving too fast in '94. Clinton has stated that they intend to move it there gradually. That's why they try to expand Medicare coverage even while they rant about its impending bankruptcy. The bigger the programs are, the more impossible to back out. As in Social Security's origins, the National Health Care would exempt government employees, some unions under existing contracts, etc. The only difference is it would start with an 8 to 9 percent income tax that no doubt would increase over time.

Amazing how much Newt and Clinton have in common, isn't it?

C'mon thread! Isn't there a Democrat left willing to stand tall and say how proud they are of the man they elected?

Okay, I will respond to that question, on the assumption that, or at least in the hope that, you will not jeer at me for my having done so.

I am a lifelong Democrat. Never, ever, have I voted for a Republican; I still have a sneaking feeling that God will strike me dead with a lightning bolt if I should so much as reach up to pull the Republican lever. <gg>

HOWEVER -- I could not bring myself to vote for Clinton the last time round. So, I cast my protest vote for the only third party candidate on the ballot in my district (the candidate of the Natural Rights Party, whatever his name was).

So -- I did not elect Clinton. The country did.

I remain a Democrat, however.
