My theory [(c)1998 Chip Anderson] is that it is more likely "Short the rumor, cover the fact."

The rumor was Diamond's channel stuffing which evidently all of Wall Street (excepting us) knew about beforehand. Now that the news is out, the shorts are unwinding. Happily, the patent lawsuit has helped to kick many of them in the butt on their way out the door.
