Intel Investors - Gateway Uses Pentium MMX and Pentium II in new Notebook computers. A very small notebook, the Solo 3100SE, will use the Pentium MMX 233 MHz CPU. Other models will use the Pentium II Mobile Edition. Spooner, ZDNet Gateway Inc. today rolled out the new ultraportable Solo 3100. The notebook, which ranges in price from $2,099 to $2,999 and is available now, weighs approximately 5 pounds and is 1.2-inches thick. The machine utilizes a magnesium alloy display casing, which makes it thinner and more durable than a normal notebook with a plastic case. The notebook also incorporates a 56K-bps, V.90 modem and drive bay, which accommodates a number of peripherals, including an optional two-speed DVD-ROM priced at $200. The $2,099 Solo 3100SE model comes with 12.1-inch TFT display, a 233MHz Intel Corp. Pentium Processor with MMX Technology, 32MB of RAM, a 2GB hard drive and a 20-speed CD-ROM drive. A Solo 3100LS model, priced at $2,499, will offer a 233MHz Pentium II, 64MB of RAM and a 4GB hard drive. The $2,999 Solo 3100XL will offer a 300MHz Pentium II, 64MB of RAM, a 4GB hard drive and the DVD-ROM drive. Elsewhere on the mobile front, Toshiba America Information Systems Inc. today introduced two new Satellite notebooks that incorporate Intel's 266MHz mobile Pentium II processor. The Satellite 4015 is available now, and the Satellite 4010 will be available in October. Prices range from $1,999 to $2,299.
