OT - re Long Term Cap ---------------

As is common, the press has it wrong.

"Long-Term Capital Management received a $3.5-billion bailout"
"to save LTCM from collapse"

All the cash did was buy them some time. To me, the press stories
give the impression the problem was solved, but if their investments
in foreign markets keep deteriorating and money flows into US
bonds continues, LTC's positions in these markets will suffer.

It is possible that in another month they will need another
bailout. Other firms similarly positioned could be in trouble
too. These events could spark a big downturn.
